First Mate privacy notice
First Mate is a private pilot used by the co-owners of one boat to plan when they could take it out. It isn't open to the public.
What it stores
- Your email address and display name, so you can sign in.
- The boat's wind limits, its outings and your answers to them.
- Earlier versions of the pilot asked for the times you were available. Anything you entered is kept but no longer used or shown; ask the pilot organiser if you want it deleted.
- If you connect Google Calendar: only the times you're busy in your main calendar (for today and the next 14 days), and an encrypted permission to check them. Never event names, descriptions, locations or attendees. First Mate can't change your calendar.
Who sees it
You and the people on your boat. They see your name, your answers to outings you're invited to and, for the boat's Captains, the boat's settings you change. The times you're busy in your connected calendar stay yours alone until you choose, on the You page, to share them with the boat; then the people on the boat see them for the coming days as times only, nothing about what they are, and you can stop sharing at any time. A free calendar is never treated as you agreeing to go. Nothing is sold or shared with anyone else; it is stored with First Mate's hosting providers (Supabase and Vercel) to run the service.
Google user data
First Mate's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Busy times are used only to find times when the people on the boat could sail.
Keeping and deleting
Calendar busy times are replaced at every check. Disconnecting your calendar in First Mate deletes its busy times and permission straight away and asks Google to revoke access; you can also remove First Mate at myaccount.google.com/connections. Ask the pilot organiser to delete your account and everything else.
